Online Protests prompt House to Kill SOPA Censorship Bill but Battle has just Begun

Although Online Protests prompt House to Kill Censorship bill, the Battle is just Beginning.

People in the US, the UK and everywhere around the world are fighting back against government control and censorship.

Online protesters from virtually everywhere prompting the U.S. House of Representatives to Kill the SOPA Internet Censorship bill, are now working to reverse the new NDAA bill, which includes an extremely radical and very dangerous amendment that could end America as we know it. The online activists were only outdone by demonstrators and protesters everywhere around the world standing up to oppressive governments.

Not only have the online protests about both bills been surprisingly large, ranging from calling Representatives, companies, and senators to get them to change their mind, and actively moving domain's away from and targeting the business model of the companies that supported the bills, Occupy and other protesters are out in force to fight for freedom in person.

Although the new NDAA bill is without a doubt the most dangerous of the three bills, GoDaddy lost well over 100,000 domains in the space of about 10 days due to their involvement with SOPA. Reddit in particular has been instrumental in fighting back against SOPA and PIPA, and is a good demonstration of how the Internet enables Democracy.

PIPA, though less known than SOPA, is basicly the same thing. It includes the same DNS blocking and censoring system the original SOPA had, but without the SOPA name. There are approximately 40 co-sponsors of the bill in the Senate up until now, with no one knowing how many more senators plan on supporting the bill. They will nee 60 Senate votes in order to pass the bill, but even should they get them, it would almost guarantee a filibuster.

But the government's attempts to control and censor the Interenet will continue in the United States and around the world. As long as there are greedy, power-hungry elitists pupateering our politicians, their grab for control of the Internet will go on. Society's struggle against censorship and oppression will never be over.

In fact, Adam Justice, a major contributor for Yahoo News and veteran web developer, summed it up nicely with his article, "SOPA; We’ve Won a Battle in a War That Will Never End."

It’s time for action. Call your Senator today. Spread the word to your friends and family. Promise not to vote for politicians who support NDAA or SOPA. There’s also protests, rallies and meetups happening all across the United States. And if you don't live in the America, you can still petition the U.S. State Department at americancensorship.org.

Call your Senators and write Congressmen. Educate your friends and family, and please spread the word about NDAA, SOPA and PROTECT IP.

You want to know that you did everything you could to safeguard freedom and to protect the Internet.

I hope you will take the time, sparing a few minutes to call your senators below:
